Today I’m showing you how I fixed my husband’s coat with a broken pocket zipper. The top of the zipper had come out of the stitching, which wasn’t very useful!

He seems to be really good at ripping and damaging his clothing, because almost all the mending projects on my blog are fixing his clothes! 😉

Anyways, he brought this coat into my sewing room and asked if I could fix it – and of course I had to try! But as usual, I put it off for months, then decided one day to just sit down and get it done – only to find the whole project only took an hour or so. It was definitely a lesson in not putting things off, because they often don’t take as long as I expect!

I made a video for you so if you have a similar problem on a coat or jacket, you can follow along and see how I fixed it!

But the basics of it are – I seam ripped the area above the zipper (where it used to be attached), then pinned it back over the zipper. Next I just hand sewed it back in place – I couldn’t machine stitch it because the lining was nonremovable – meaning machine stitches would have shown through in the lining of the coat!
