Today is the second tutorial in a two-tutorial series featuring my recent bra-making adventure. In the first post I showed you how to make a well-fitting bra pattern from a worn out bra in your closet. You can find it HERE. And today, I’ll be showing you how to actually SEW a bra. Using the pattern we made in the last tutorial of course.

This is definitely a more involved project. So not a quick sew! But it is so worth it to sew your own well-fitting bras. And you’ll likely save money making your own – because bras are EXPENSIVE!

So I put together a video tutorial for you below. Normally I also include a written version of the tutorial, but for this one I decided not to because the post would be SUPER long. Like I said, it’s a more complicated project! But I hope you’re up for the challenge, because it’s a super rewarding thing to be able to sew your own lingerie.

Ok, let’s get started. First here’s what you’ll need.

What you need

  • bra pattern you made with the last tutorial (TUTORIAL HERE)
  • fabric for your bra – I like fabric with at least 50% stretch – THIS is the fabric I used
  • cut-and-sew foam (1/8th inch thick)
  • sewing machine, thread, needles (stretch needles), iron, basic sewing supplies
  • interfacing (I recommend interfacing the bridge pieces before sewing, I didn’t and I regret it!)
  • bra findings: you can get a kit like THIS, or buy everything separately – you’ll need strap elastic, picot elastic in 3/4 and 1/2 inch, underwire channeling, slides and rings, and bra clasp
  • the last thing you’ll need: underwires – now you can use the ones from the bra you took apart to make your pattern or try to find a new set that matches the measurements of the old ones

Alright, now for the tutorial.
